Gather your friends or family for an unforgettable adventure at Patuxent River State Park! This unique course is designed to challenge both your body and mind while highlighting the park’s distinctive features, created in collaboration with its dedicated staff and volunteers.

Begin your journey at the main parking lot, where you'll find a kiosk with a QR code.

  1. Download Your Map – Scan the QR code to access the course map.

  2. Explore the Checkpoints – Visit as many checkpoints as possible, in any order.

  3. Take on Challenges – At each checkpoint, choose between a mental challenge, a physical challenge, or both!

  4. Complete the post-race survey- Share your experience and feedback to help us improve future challenges. â€‹

¡Reúne a tus amigos o familia y embárcate en una aventura inolvidable en el Parque Estatal del Río Patuxent! Este recorrido único está diseñado para desafiar tanto tu cuerpo como tu mente, mientras descubres las características especiales del parque, creado en colaboración con sus dedicados empleados y voluntarios.

What size groups are best suited for this course?

​

  • We recommend participating in teams of 2-4 for the best experience. However, individuals and larger groups can still enjoy the course.

​

What ages is this course suitable for?

 

  • This course is best suited for children ages four and up. However, younger kids can still enjoy most of the challenges and feel included in the adventure.

What is the total distance of the course?

 

  • If you complete all the challenges in a single hike, the total distance is approximately 5 miles. However, the course is designed to be enjoyed over multiple trips if completing it all at once isn’t an option. The terrain is slightly hilly, and the trails are well-maintained.

What are some examples of the challenges?

​

  • All team members must stay connected by touch while moving to the next checkpoint. If anyone disconnects—like a wire losing contact with a battery—the team must stop until they reconnect.

  • Using information from nearby kiosks, determine how many natural lakes exist in Maryland?

How long does it take to complete?

 

  • The duration varies based on the number of checkpoints and challenges your team chooses to tackle. Teams can participate in as many as they have time for. If completing the entire course at a moderate walking pace, families can expect to finish in about two hours.​
